Day 151, 214 To Go

May 31, 2013

It is now my race weekend.  Am I ready?  Do I have all my equipment in working order?  Am I fit enough?  Am I ready to carbo load?

So, to answer my questions: Yes, Yes, I hope so, Yes!

There is really nothing I can do about the third question.  If I am not fit enough, I'm out of luck.  It is too late to do any more training and almost nothing you do in your last week is going to make you race better.  Sure, you can screw yourself up by over training the last week, or not training at all.  You can hurt yourself too.  Basically, you should taper your workload and do some short, high intensity work, and that is about it.

I certainly tapered my bike riding by not riding at all.  Not a good plan.  I kind of tapered my running by running shorter on Sunday, but I kind of had to run every day (if you read this blog, you know why) so I couldn't do much about that.  And since I haven't swam in weeks, I had nothing to taper there (again, not a good thing).

So, I am as ready as I can be.  I am going to do some carbo loading today, although for a short race like this, it isn't really necessary.  However, I like to follow a similar pre race routine so my body get's used to it and so do I (by that I mean mentally...I need a lot of help mentally.  Lots.)

Here are my numbers for today:

Time: 20:00
Distance: 2.17 miles
Pace: 9:13/m
Max Pace: 6:12/m
Calories: 277
Avg HR: 129
Max HR: 147

I didn't push very hard except for a short spurt at the end.  I'm not feeling all that ready.  I hope that changes on Sunday.  Tomorrow will be an easy run and probably a ride to make sure I stay loose, and then I am ready to go.

Run for Life!
