Day 156, 209 To Go

June 5, 2013

I am proud that I have been able to rack up 156 days of running in a row.  I know many have done longer, but I am not done yet and I am close to being halfway to my goal.  Then I read an article in Runner's World that just blew my mind.

Check it out here: Article

This dude has run every day for 45 years!!!  Holy crap.  He is voluntarily ending his streak due to un-fixable foot injuries and turning to biking instead to get his exercise.  His name is Mark Convert and he is now 62 years old.  He has run at least a mile every day since July 22, 1968.  I wasn't even born yet.

Running a mile seems to be the cut off for people who want to keep a streak alive.  I know my streak is based on time, but at the least, if I were injured, I would attempt to bang out at least a mile if I was unable to do any more.  In fact, after my year of running is up, I may continue running every day but I may just jog a mile on days that I want to "rest".

The world is full of impressive people who are able to do amazing things with their body.  I am finding it hard enough to find time to run every day and it has only be 156 days.  To be able to run every day for 45 years, or over 16,425 days in a row, is just incredible.  I mean, you get sick, have to travel, have special events like weddings, children being born, there are severe storms or you get injured.  All of these things can derail a streak like this, but somehow, he got past them all.

My hat is off to you, Mark Convert!

Here are my numbers for today:

Time: 20:00
Distance: 2.24 miles
Pace: 8:57/m
Max Pace: 7:23/m
Calories: 287
Avg HR: 139
Max HR: 148

I think I was a bit sore from my faster run yesterday, or perhaps it is lingering soreness from Sunday, but in either case, I wasn't able to push too hard.  I did get faster at the end.  I think I just take longer to warm up on some days.  It might have something to do with how long I sit on my ass all day.  I don't know and I may never.  Anyway, all I have to say is...

Run for Life!!  (or at least for 45 years!!)
