Honey went shopping yesterday. I'll let that sink in a bit. I am preparing the papers for bankruptcy as I write. Ok, I'm being dramatic. In fact, her shopping wasn't that type of shopping. She was shopping for supplies for her business where she creates Step by Step instructions on how to make cake toppers. Check out her work here: Cup n'Cakes Gourmet Step by Step Gallery
The supplies are heavy. She ended up carrying 30 kilos, or about 60 pounds, up and down stairs, and around the city of Sao Paulo. Today, she is sore like she did a leg workout. She can hardly walk up or down stairs. It is really quite funny. She is sore from shopping. More sore than I have ever seen her from working out. If it didn't cost so much, I'd have her go shopping every week. She'd be in the best shape of her life, but the rest of the family would starve and be homeless!
Of course, I am making her run today. But first, lets get to the next lesson in the 22 Essential Pieces of Marathon Training Advice.
Choose a Plan Based on Your Fitness Level
Focused running is more important than long useless mileage. Longer endurance events need more aerobic work than shorter events. The key is to not overtrain. Make sure you are logging workouts to assess your volume week-by-week, month-by-month and year-by-year. When an athlete approaches me about training for a specific event, I always lean towards the conservative end of training. —Justin Levine

This sounds like common sense, but how many of you know someone without any common sense? How many of YOU have no common sense? Do I even have common sense? What the hell is common sense anyway? I digress...
You need to pick a training plan that you not only can handle, but you have time for. The plan should include more than just running and the plan should be long enough for the specified event. Take a look at the link above for some great advice. What stood out to me was the length of time we should be training for specific events. For a marathon, the recommendation is 36 - 52 weeks! Wow! Most training plans will top out at 24 weeks. Again, planning is the key element here. If you really want to do a marathon, make sure you plan ahead!
Now, for our numbers:

Honey did a good job today considering her pain and continued whining while she ran. One would think that if you spend so much time complaining, you would not have enough breath to run, but she did it!
The bottom line is that running today will make her feel much better tomorrow. She will still be sore, but nowhere near as sore as she would have been if she had not run. She ran easy and didn't push too hard which is what you are supposed to do when you are sore. It was a good run!
Tomorrow is a special day, so tune in! Good night, or should I say, Boa Noite!
