Day 121, 244 To Go

May 1, 2013

I'm starting May off right.  Not only did I run today (obviously!) I also went for a morning bike ride!  It was only 16 miles, but I started at 6:30am!  I hate mornings...really, so it was an accomplishment to voluntarily get up during the week when I have to work afterwards.  I burned over 1,000 calories before breakfast.  That is a great way to start the day.

I need to get my bike mileage up by the end of the year if I want to have a chance to do an Ironman next year.  I would like to be riding three times a week with my long ride upwards of 50 miles, at least.  I think if I can get there, I will start the training in a good place.  By the end of the year, I'll be running 30 minutes every day, so that will give me about 18 miles a week plus the long run which is usually at least 6 miles.  As long as I am running at least 20 miles a week, I am in a good place to start my running training.  I'm not worried about the swim because I can get my distance up pretty quickly in a few weeks without worrying about an injury there.

Here are my morning bike numbers:

Time: 0:51:19
Distance: 16.18 miles
Pace: 18.91mph
Max Pace: 27.70mph
Calories: 1,067
Avg HR: xxx
Max HR: xxx

I forgot my heart rate monitor, so I don't have HR numbers.  I actually did remember before I left the house, but every time you open an outside door in my house, the alarm goes !!!BEEP!!!  It is really annoying and I have no idea how to shut it off...not to mention it is a good warning if my four year old, Derek, decides to go outside without permission.  Anyway, I didn't want  the !!!BEEP!!! to wake up the triplets, so I decided to forgo the use of the HR monitor for the ride.  No biggie.

Honey once again accompanied me on my run today.  She did a fabulous job and ran without stopping.  This is becoming routine for her.  I need to find a way to shake things up so I give her a better challenge!  She had a nice time...not her best, but she is consistently in the low 12s for her pace.  In no time she will surpass that and make her way into the 11s.

Here are our numbers:

Time: 20:00
Distance: 1.64 miles
Pace: 12:13/m
Max Pace: 9:48/m
Calories: 193
Avg HR: 115
Max HR: 127

I know I owe you some end of the month numbers...and I'm working on it.  Maybe tomorrow...just don't hold your breath or anything!

Run for Life!!
