As we approach the end of the month, I find myself getting bored with my routine and I am using my runs to try to come up with something new. As it is, I run the same route every day. I live in a gated community and I am at the end of the street, so I really only have one way to go. I supposed I could drive somewhere to go for a run, but normally, my time is precious and I have to escape for my 15 minutes anyway. So, what do you do to spice up your runs?
There are a few things you can do like speed work or running hills. Unfortunately for me, while I am only running 15 minutes, speed work is out of the question because I need 10 minutes to warm up and that only leave me with 5 left. And hills? I live in Florida. The only hills here are ant hills and if you try to run on those, you will regret it. Bitches are vicious!
So, I tend to get my variety through music. Or lately, talk. I found an ESPN app and I can listen to my favorite shows from up north like the Michael Kay show. He is the Yankee announcer and he talks a lot of Yankees. Since baseball is back, it piques my interest!
But is that enough? No, I don't think so.
Honey was running with me more earlier in the year, but now, not so much. My pleas of "Honey, honey, let's go for a run" are going unanswered. What's a lonely runner to do?
Suck it up and stop bitching!
Ok, I will...but I will not stop trying to come up with interesting ideas on my runs. Soon, I will be increasing my runs to 20 minutes and if I really want to get faster, I'll need to do a couple of longer runs during the week. This will put a lot of stress on my body, but I'm hoping it is getting used to it by now. I do feel like I can run 15 minutes a day for the whole year without issue now. Almost time to get serious!
