Day 44, 321 To Go

February 13, 2013

Honey, do you want to run today?

"No, I do not, but I love you," says Honey.

Trying to bribe me with sweetness, I see...

"I love you too Honey, but I'd love you more if you ran with me."

As you can tell, I'm not as sweet.

So she came out with me.  Unfortunately, Honey had a good reason to not want to run with me.  Her uterus was acting up again.  If I were her uterus and she stuck three babies in me, I'd be pissed too, so I can understand what her uterus is thinking.

So Honey got about 2:30 minutes in before she was doubling over in pain, so we decided that she had had enough and she could always run another day.  The worst part was that she had just bought a brand new sports bra that look fabulous on her.  There will be another day when she can sweat all over it!

You have to listen to your body.  There are times when it screams at you.  Other times, it may bark, but has no bite.  You have to be in tune with your body.  If you are not, you will push yourself to the breaking point.  Honey realized that her breaking point was at 2:30 and she stopped.  As it is, she will probably be in pain for a good part of the night so she definitely did the right thing.

If you ever have a pain that makes you say, "OUCH" out loud when you are running or playing any sport,  just stop!  Evaluate what happened and if you want to run or play whatever it is you are playing again in the next few days/weeks/months, you owe it to yourself to put the brakes on and take a rest.

One of my biggest disappointments in my running career was when I had to sit out the Honolulu Marathon because I pulled my hamstring.  I believe I have mentioned this before.  If I had stopped when I felt that pain in the back of my leg (although I'm not sure I said "ouch"...more like "fuuuuuuccckkk!!") I may have been able to run the race.

So, the next time you feel the need to scream out in pain or to throw a slew of four letter words into the ether, just stop what you are doing.

Here are my numbers today:

Time: 15:00
Distance: 1.69 miles
Pace: 8:51/m
Max Pace: 7:32/m
Calories: 217
Avg HR: 134
Max HR: 152

The above doesn't include the 2:30 I ran with Honey.  I decided to start over from scratch.  I felt much better today.  Although I am not 100% yet, I am recovering from my cold nicely.  It helps that it was over 80 degrees today.  The humidity wasn't nice, but I'll take it over 30 and dry any day.

Stay warm my friends...

Run for life!
