As I sit here writing my Sunday blog after I finally caught up on all my late blogs, I am dreaming of being snuggled in my bed with the lights out and the covers tucked in around me. Yes, it is mid afternoon after a couple of hard workouts, I ate, the babies are restless, and I am ready for bed! Bring it on!! Of course it is only about 4pm in the afternoon and Honey is driving Mama Honey to the airport, so there is no hope for me.Yes, it is a sad day. Mama Honey has left the building and as of today, we don't know when she will return or when we will go there to visit her. Having four kids makes traveling a wee bit difficult and it is expensive to fly from Brazil to here. Honey is very sad, but no one is sadder then poor little Derek. He loves his vovo (grandma in Portuguese) and he is only four, so he doesn't understand. I wish I was there at the airport to comfort him.
Family is important, and it remains the biggest reason why I stay fit. I want as much time with my family as I can get. You never know when it will all end, so you have to take what you can get when you can get it!
Today was a full day of exercise. Since Honey was going to the airport, I decided to run early so I didn't have to run in the cold late at night. And yeah, it is pretty chilly here. It got down into the 30s last night! Its Florida! What the hell! I should have moved further South. So, I ran this morning around 10am and I did a full 60 minutes. I did not push the pace at all since I had further plans to go bike riding. I just wanted to stay in my aerobic zone and I accomplished that nicely.
Here are my numbers:
Time: 60:00
Distance: 6.29 miles
Pace: 9:33/m
Max Pace: 6:54/m
Calories: 811
Avg HR: 142
Max HR: 156
Not a bad pace. I found myself inching out of my aerobic zone only once, and I pulled it back and kept my focus. No real pains except a little tightness in my ankle and right foot. Running barefoot has its advantages, but the biggest disadvantage is the pounding your feet take on hard asphalt. I'll just have to build up a tolerance is all.
After I got back from the run, I got ready quickly and I was out the door for my bike ride. Running in the cold (it was just under 50) is one thing, but riding in the cold sucks at a whole another level. I do have some nice warm riding gear (I lived in the Northeast before) so I had that covered and I have ridden in weather as cold as 30 degrees! I can say with certainty...fuck that. I won't do that again. Screw everything about that!
Today, it was about 50 - 55 while we rode. I rode with friends Mike and Daryll. The way out was nice, but the way back it was WINDY!! I totally suck in the wind, but I hung on as best as I could. I wasn't too tired at the beginning of the ride even after my hour run, but it caught up to me at the end.

Distance: 23.82 miles
Pace: 17.56mph
Max Pace: 26.42mph
Calories: 1,499
Avg HR: 141
Max HR: 164
That 26+mph was on the way out with the wind at our backs. It felt so nice and easy, I think we could have easily pushed 30. On the way back, I was thinking about that as I pushed through the wind at a paltry 12 - 15pmh at times. Good workout though.
No swimming today. Guess the swim training will have to wait until it warms up a bit. I could find an indoor pool and I am going to look a bit, but that is an expense I will try to avoid for now.
Anyway, it is time to feed the kiddies and get them fattened up for a nice night's sleep. I may do that myself. Eat and go to sleep. Honey makes this AMAZING ice cream cake. You have to taste it to believe it. It is better than Carvel or Cold Stone or any other ice cream cake you ever had. Trust me. I may eat a big piece (I earned it...although, one piece probably had 1,000 calories...so there goes my exercise benefit...<sigh>) at take a nap, at least.
Run for life!
