October 1, 2013
The Holiday season has arrived. Yes, October begins a stretch of decadence unrivaled throughout the year. First, you have the build up to Halloween with all its candy and chocolate and scantily clad women in sexy nurse, police, or bunny outfits. Then, the buildup to Thanksgiving is right around the corner. People are pushing pies and cakes and all sorts of holiday deserts all building to a crescendo of gluttony on Thanksgiving Day itself! Ah, not to be outdone, comes December. Now the full flavored winter beers are flourishing with their spices and rich flavor, full of alcohol and calories. The leftover chocolate and candy from Halloween is still tempting you, but it is no match for the flurry of Christmas treats like candy canes and Christmas cookies. By this point you don't even care. You are eating everything thrown at you since New Year's is around the corner and you will just make a bunch of resolutions you can't hope to keep so you can lose all the weight you gained around the holiday. Luckily for most of you, you live in a cold climate where you can cover up your ever expanding waistlines with fluffy holiday sweaters. But don't get too comfortable, Spring is just around the corner...
The above was just a cautionary tale to bring to light the challenges we all will face in the coming months. Try to keep the gluttony to a minimum, don't forget to workout, and most of all, enjoy!
Here are my numbers for Tuesday:
Time: 30:00

Calories: 304

I did my first 30 minute run of the quarter and it didn't feel too much worse than a regular run. I am still in recovery mode so I ran easy. Seems like most of my runs have had this motive...run easy. I guess I will share my September numbers with all of you. This is the first month where I have gone backwards a bit. Granted, I was on vacation, so I will cut myself a little slack.
So, here are my monthly numbers:
Total Miles | Total Time
January 52.24 | 9:25:00
February 52.01 | 8:40:07
March 74.57 | 11:30:00
April 75.59 | 12:00:16
May 79.51 | 12:31:00
June 82.35 | 12:40:19
July 92.09 | 15:01:00
August 100.52 | 16:15:00
September 87.29 | 14:21:21
Here is a week by week breakdown:
Steve's Total Miles Logged: 87.29
Partial Week 1: 7.01
Week 2: 21.73
Week 3: 21.07
Week 4: 17.56
Week 5: 19.93
Total Running Time: 16:15:00
Honey's Total Miles Logged: 12.53
Partial Week 1: 0.00
Week 2: 6.41
Week 3: 4.02
Week 4: 2.10
Week 5: 0.00
Total Running Time: 2:30:00
This was the first month where my total miles were scaled back. Part of the reason is that I skipped two long Sunday runs. The other part is that I was running more difficult terrain and I was not able to complete as many miles. I still managed to run 2 less hours though, and I'm not quite sure how I managed that.
Honey also had a down month as far as miles and time go. Again, she was on vacation, so I'll cut her some slack. October is a new month and although I will be starting this month off easy, I hope to be able to end strong. Stay tuned folks! We are entering the home stretch. Only 91 days to go!
