Day 278, 87 To Go

October 5, 2013

I relaxed today.  I really did.  Actually, Honey really relaxed as she slept until about noon and I took care of the kiddies.  Basically, after feeding them, I laid down on the floor on their little couches, and waited for them to take turns jumping on me.  Really, it is relaxing because as long as they are not doing anything wrong, they are easy.  They come by, give you kisses, play with you, laugh, and just enjoy your company.

I was relaxed!

Speaking of relaxing, let's talk about #14 on the 22 Essential Pieces of Marathon Training Advice from Active.com.

Cope With Your Mental Blocks

The same desire to get the best from yourself can lead you to try too hard. To run faster, you've got to be efficient. To run efficiently, you need proper form. You want to have all of your momentum carried forward, not wasted going elsewhere. When your shoulders are up to your ears, your arms aren't able to swing freely from front to back. If you're hunching forward, you're wasting energy. —Caitlin Chock

If you click on the link above, you will get a few strategies to relax during your training.  Yes, even when you are working hard, you need to relax.  If you have ever played a sport - any sport - you know that as soon as you tense up, you start to make mistakes.  This goes for running too.  If you are tense, you are more likely to injure yourself.  If you are tense, you lose some of your range of motion and that leads to injuries, slower times, and sad faces.  So, just fucking chill!  Every step you take is a step in the right direction to a smarter, slimmer, happier, fitter and longer living you!  What's not to smile about!

Here are my numbers today:

Time: 30:00
Distance: 3.06 miles
Pace: 9:47/m
Max Pace: 8:30/m
Calories: 311
Avg HR: 121
Max HR: 131

I have no excuse for my slow time except to say I was really relaxed.  Actually, I think after running two days well, my body needed a break.  That's fine.  Looking forward to tomorrow!!

Run for Life!!
