It is Wednesday and I am feeling good today. I was reminded today, also, that the Ironman World Championship is this Saturday on Kona, Hawaii! So I want to wish all the racers good luck and safe racing. I would love to be one of them this weekend but 1) I am not fast enough, 2) I am not lucky enough to get a lottery slot and 3) I can't afford to fly to Hawaii with my family (because they wouldn't let me go alone!)
Earlier this year I had talked about doing my first Ironman next year, but things didn't work out for me to do that. Technically, I could still do Florida Ironman, but it will be very difficult to get in. That was why I was going to volunteer so I would have a much better shot at getting a slot. The athletes can sign up first, then volunteers, then the public. The race will sell out in less than an hour as it is a very popular race for a few reasons. The weather is usually mild in November, the scenery in Panama, Florida, is beautiful, and the course is flat.
I still want to complete an Ironman distance race, so I will keep it on my bucket list. There is another Ironman in Florida. It is in central Florida and it is called the Great Florida Triathlon. I suppose I could do this race, but less than 500 people enter and I kind of want the big spectacle of 2,000 people racing all at once. It is not an Ironman brand triathlon. It isn't even a Rev3 brand. It is independent and that is fine, but, I kind of want to do a real Ironman. How else can I qualify for Kona? Sure, I would need a rocket jammed up my butt to be able to go fast enough to qualify, but I like to keep my options open. Also, it is considered a REALLY tough race and it takes place in on of the only areas of Florida with lots of hills.
Anyway, here are my numbers for today:
Time: 30:00

Anyway, here are my numbers for today:
Time: 30:00
Distance: 3.65 miles
Pace: 8:13/m
Max Pace: 7:04/m
Calories: 388
Avg HR: 139
Max HR: 152
I really didn't run hard today. It just felt good. Towards the end, I felt it getting harder and I didn't back off. I know I probably should have, but I didn't push too hard at the end. You can see my HR pushed up to 152 which is just above my aerobic pace, but it was only there for a few minutes. Overall, I stayed pretty steady in the lower 140s. If I was more confident in my recovery at this point, I would have pushed and made this a tempo run day, but I'm not sure if I am ready yet. Let's see what happens tomorrow!
